18-year-old woman missing since leaving nightclub over the weekend
Police are searching for a missing 18-year-old woman who has not been seen since the early morning of Sunday 16 January. Marnie Clayton was last seen leaving Atik nightclub on William Street in Windsor at approximately 2am, but she didn't return home as expected and was reported missing by her family just before 3am.
The 18-year-old is approximately 5'2" to 5'4" with brown hair and a slim build. At the time of her disappearance, she's believed to have been wearing a grey dress. Thames Valley Police have appealed for any witnesses, or those who know of Marnie's whereabouts, to come forward with information.
"Thames Valley Police is appealing for the public’s help in tracing a woman from Bracknell who has been reported missing after leaving a night club in Windsor early," a statement from Thames Valley Police read. "She was wearing a grey-coloured dress when last seen and is also known to frequent Reading town centre."
Speaking about the young woman's disappearance, Detective Chief Inspector Jon Groenen of Thames Valley Police, said: "This is out of character for Marnie, and we are becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare. I would appeal to anybody who knows of Marnie's whereabouts to please call us on 101, quoting reference number 43220021633. If you see her, please contact us on 999."
Groenen continued, "I would also like to appeal directly to Marnie, if you see this appeal, please contact your family or the police to let us know you are safe and where you are."
Her disappearance comes just days after a 23-year-old woman was killed whilst out for a jog. Ashling Murphy tragically died following a seemingly horrific and random attack last week [12 January], whilst out jogging along a canal in Tullamore, County Offaly. Vowing to leave "no stone unturned" in the search for answers, a team of over 50 Garda (Irish police) officers have been assigned to work on the case.
Shortly after news broke of the teacher's death, a 40-year-old man was arrested in connection, but was later released. Speaking about the arrest and release of the man in question, a spokesperson told the media: "The male who was arrested and detained by An Garda Siochana investigating this fatal assault has now been released from this detention. This male has been eliminated from Garda inquiries and is no longer a suspect."
