There Are 2 Reasons Why Camilla Parker Bowles Didn’t Wear a Tiara on Her Wedding Day

When we first discovered the special meaning behind Princess Beatrice’s tiara, we immediately started thinking about past royal weddings. It didn’t take long for us to realize that Camilla Parker Bowles is one of the only members of the royal family who didn’t wear a regal headpiece during her nuptials.

As it turns out, there are not one, but two valid reasons as to why the Duchess of Cornwall, 73, didn’t wear a tiara on her wedding day. According to Hello! magazine, the first reason is because Bowles was previously married.

In 1973, she tied the knot with Major Andrew Parker Bowles and wore a headpiece during the ceremony. When Bowles married Prince Charles in 2005, she didn’t don a tiara, which isn’t uncommon for divorced royal brides. (For example, Princess Anne didn’t wear a jewel-encrusted head accessory for her second wedding in 1992.)

Another reason for Bowles’s tiara (or lack thereof) had to do with the location. Instead of a traditional church wedding, Prince Charles and Bowles opted for a civil ceremony at the Windsor Guildhall, followed by a blessing at St George’s Chapel.

Since they didn’t actually get married in a church, it’s not custom for the bride to wear formal jewelry, like a tiara.

Tiaras are prized possessions in the royal family. Not only are they passed down from generation to generation, but they’re also under the close watch of Queen Elizabeth, who typically lends the accessories to family members for special occasions, like Kate Middleton’s 2011 wedding at Westminster Abbey.

On the bright side, Bowles will likely forgo the “tiara” stage and upgrade straight to “crown” when she becomes queen consort.
