2 Tarrant County restaurants temporarily closed; dead roach, flies found at inspection
Two Tarrant County restaurants were closed due to refrigeration issues and four mobile food units failed Aug. 20-Sept. 2 inspections, according to county data compiled by the Star-Telegram.
Mai Thai Restaurant at 201 Highway 156 N in Haslet, scored 30 on Aug. 24. Restaurants that receive more than 29 demerits require a follow-up inspection.
The inspector found several flies in the kitchen and food debris on knives in the knife holder. Three refrigerators weren’t cooling properly, and the owners voluntarily closed the restaurant until the refrigerators could be repaired.
The establishment scored 6 on a follow-up inspection the next day and was allowed to reopen.
Big Joe’s Pizza and Pasta at 1195 FM 156 in Haslet scored 28 on Aug. 25. The inspectors found spaghetti inside a container in the mop sink and no hand soap at one of the hand sinks.
A walk-in cooler and reach-in freezer weren’t maintaining food at a safe temperature, and the facility voluntarily closed due to the refrigeration issues.
The restaurant scored 3 on a follow-up inspection the next day and was given permission to reopen.
Benbrook Cafe at 4902 Highway 377 S in Benbrook scored 16 on Aug. 22. The inspector noticed several uncovered food items in the coolers and found flies in the kitchen and a dead cockroach in the dry storage area.
Two mobile food units, Crown Catering Texas and El Atoron, failed inspection due to refrigeration issues. El Atoron scored a perfect zero on a follow-up inspection and the inspector noted the mobile unit was OK to operate.
R and R Food Truck Tacos required a follow-up inspection of its sandwich unit and was not issued a permit on Aug. 28.
A fourth mobile unit, Flavor After Flavor, failed because of no hot water but scored a perfect zero on the follow-up inspection several days later.
