Rather than have the holidays creep up at the very last-minute, Canadians are looking to beat the seasonal rush by starting their holiday shopping early — and they’re intent on saving some money when doing so. In a recent survey conducted by RetailMeNot, 55 per cent of Canadians polled said that they were looking to kick off holiday gift shipping over the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend.

“With only 26 days between Black Friday and Christmas in 2019, people want to ensure they get exactly what they need for the best price possible,” said Sara Skirboll, RetailMeNot’s resident Shopping and Trends Expert.

Of those polled, 45 per cent are planning to spend between $250 and $900 during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, with a reported average of $738. Whether Canadians are getting ahead of their holiday gift-buying to treat others or themselves this year, they plan to shop through the following categories.



Technology


Inheriting mega-saving deals from our neighbours in the U.S., Black Friday in Canada has earned a rep for knocking hefty percentages off laptops, TVs and gaming consoles. According to RetailMeNot’s survey, 35 per cent of Canadians plan to buy electronics.

To score the biggest savings, now and through the most-anticipated shopping event of the year, we suggest checking out the following retailers:

  • Amazon - The one-stop shopping destination has announced the launch of its Early Black Friday Deals Store. From now through Nov. 21, customers can find deals on everything from toys and electronics to holiday entertaining essentials, wardrobe must-haves and so much more. While we still haven’t received word on their official Black Friday weekend deals, we know Amazon will be kicking off early on Nov. 22.

  • Best Buy - Best Buy Canada will be introducing a Black Friday price guarantee this year. Starting Nov. 8, Best Buy will be offering special deals flagged as “Black Friday Price Now” – those products will be the same price for Black Friday. They’ll also be introducing more Black Friday deals every week leading up to the day of.

Clothing and Accessories

To score on winter-must haves and holiday attire, 26 per cent of Canadians are said to spend big on fashion pieces.

  • Saks Off Fifth - On now until Until Nov. 19, use the code CHILLY at checkout and you’ll receive an extra 40 per cent off of already marked-down cold-weather staples, including designer picks from brands like Karl Lagerfeld, Michael Kors and more.

  • Nordstrom - In case you missed it, the fan-favourite retailer just released a preview of what shoppers can expect when their Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales roll around, and you’re not going to want to miss out. With deals on everything from footwear from the likes of Hunter, UGG and Tory Burch, outerwear from industry giants like The North Face, and jeans from top brands like AG — there’s really something for everyone.

  • Aldo - The accessories authority will partaking Black Friday weekend with 50 per cent off the original price of sale styles, 20 per cent off all regularly priced styles on Black Friday and buy 2 and get 25 per cent off for Cyber Monday.

Home goods and Appliances

12 per cent of Canadians will be looking for home goods and appliances — which includes holiday decor, kitchen appliances and home tools and essentials.

  • Canadian Tire - While we still don’t know what deals would be offered during the weekend of Black Friday, the trusted-home and hardware store is currently offering “Prep for Joy” limited-time deals with up to 70 per cent off kitchen appliances, 50 per cent off vacuums and more.

  • Bed Bath and Beyond - From now until Nov 17, Bed Bath and Beyond will offer up to 30 per cent off select home decor, finishes and must-haves.
