Summer is finally here (yay)! And with it comes the heat and humidity (boo). Here are some steps to heat-proof your make up so it doesn’t melt off 20 minutes after leaving your house. Best of all, they add practically no extra time to your morning routine and you can rest easy the rest of the day knowing you’ll look just as great at 5 p.m. as you did at 9 a.m.

Prep the skin with a primer

Prepping your face before applying makeup is a foolproof way to ensure it lasts all day. If you have dry skin opt for a hydrating primer, if your skin is dull or lacklustre a radiance primer will really help to brighten your complexion and if you have oily skin a mattifying primer will create a smooth base.

Set makeup in place with a powder

After you have chosen your base of choice apply a setting powder to the areas where your foundation wears off first. This is normally in the t-zone area so the forehead, nose and chin. The powder will help to set the foundation in place, stop it from moving around and ensure it lasts all day. Choose a translucent powder for a natural finish or a tinted powder for some extra coverage.

Finish the look with a setting spray: For long days or a night out finish off your look by using a setting spray. Three or four sprays before stepping out of the house will prevent any makeup meltdowns. The weightless formula stops the skin from feeling heavy and keeps your makeup looking as though it has just been applied. Choose an oil free formula to keep the skin feeling refreshed without looking shiny.

Use a waterproof mascara

Whether you want your mascara to thicken, lengthen or curl your lashes (or all three), pick one that comes in a waterproof formula. Waterproof mascaras are better at holding a curl and don’t smudge throughout the day, keeping your lashes looking better for longer and your under eyes smudge free.

Pick a matte lipstick: When it comes to lipstick a matte finish lasts the longest. A matte formula is by far the most convenient when you need a foolproof, long wearing lipstick that hardly requires touching up. Although they can be slightly drying after a long day apply a small amount of lip balm beforehand to ensure it stays looking seamless for hours. When it wears off your lips will still be lightly stained for a more natural, barely there look.
