Call it the 2020-effect, but the spring/summer 2022 fashion shows were laden with denim, from couture-worthy outfits to casual looks. The past year in particular we have seen a big shift away from the dominant skinny jeans of yore to wide-leg styles, and even low-waists. It can be daunting to experiment with something as trusty as denim, but give it a try and see how you feel. T&C's fashion team has highlighted five of our favorite trends to slip into next season. "We are back," these jeans seem to say, "and ready for something new." Aren't you?

A reminder that fashion always swings from one end to the opposite, this relaxed trend is a 180 from the high-waisted skinnies of the past. However, we have to admit that low-waists are a better fit for some figures and are just as easy to wear with cropped tops and heels as their classic counterparts.

Patchwork

Denim-on-denim patches evoke the traditional Japanese style of patchwork called boro, which was popular in the 19th- and 20th-century. Increasingly, brands are using the sustainable technique to re-work old pieces and deadstock fabrics into fresh finds. The best part is that they can be worn just like your favorite pair of denim while elevating the staple jeans and a t-shirt look.

Over-the-top jeans know how to have a good time. Wear them on a night out with friends and they'll be sure to make a sparkling statement. Don't worry, these new styles are leagues more sophisticated than you tween Bedazzler days.

Justin and Britney have monopolized this look for too long, it's time to reclaim the ol' Canadian Tuxedo. It's a great classic look! We especially love the tailored versions we saw at Rejina Pyo and YSL.

This 90s-trend revival has us all feeling like a rom-com star. We are looking forward to layering denim frocks over turtlenecks for now and on their own come spring.
