5 recipes you can make with leftover candy canes

Holidays come and go, leaving an abundance of leftover sweets in their wake. This is especially true with candy canes. Instead of tossing that extra box of minty goodies, why not use them to make some tasty treats? Thanks to TikTok, there are many ways to put those extra candy canes to work. If you don’t want to be stuck with an excess of peppermint this holiday season, here are five recipes you can make using leftover candy canes.

Taking a long flight home for the holidays? Here are some hacks to make your journey bearable.

1. Candy cane dip

Dips aren’t just for chips and veggies — they also make for a delicious dessert. This candy cane dip calls for a mix of Greek yogurt, cashew butter, maple syrup, sea salt and peppermint extract. Then you can top with a festive assortment of crushed candy canes and white chocolate chips. This dip pairs well with fruit, rice cakes, graham crackers and other sweet munchies.

This simple pastry dish will be your go-to all holiday season:

2. Gluten-free chocolate brownie peppermint oats

Chocolate and peppermint are two flavors that were “mint” for each other. Begin by adding oats, bananas, cocoa powder, maple syrup, baking powder, salt and peppermint extract to a blender. Next, pour the blend into a baking dish and sprinkle dark chocolate chips on top before baking. Top with crushed candy canes and enjoy!

3. Candy cane mug cake

You’ll be hooked on mug cakes after trying this easy recipe. First, add all-purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in a mug. Then stir. Once those ingredients are combined, add milk, neutral oil, chocolate chips and crushed candy canes. Thoroughly mix the ingredients before microwaving for approximately 90 seconds. Finally, garnish with a sprinkle of candy cane bits, and dig in!

4. Candy cane vodka

For a twist on your traditional vodka, look no further than this easy recipe. First, place your crushed candy canes in a Mason jar. Then pour in your vodka of choice. Cap the jar and shake it until the contents turn bright red. Then refrigerate for four hours. Use your candy cane vodka to spike hot chocolate or coffee, or make a minty cocktail.

5. Candy cane mocha

For some much-needed morning excite-mint, this recipe’s got you covered. Begin by adding a few Hershey’s candy cane kisses to a glass. Next, add some espresso, followed by a blend of frothed milk and peppermint mocha creamer. Top it off with whipped cream and a sprinkle of candy cane bits.
