Brooke Shields may be wowing audiences with her bikini body in a new ad campaign, but the model and actor is opening up about her lifelong issues with self-esteem.
The 52-year-old model and actress has spent her entire life in front of the camera, appearing in iconic ad campaigns for Calvin Klein jeans when she was barely a teenager.
However, in a new interview with People Magazine , Shields admits it’s taken her a long time to get to a place where she feels “confident being in my own skin.”
“Growing up under such scrutiny led me to feel insecure about my looks,” admits the former “Suddenly Susan” star. “Feeling disconnected from my own body, it took me years to separate the opinions of others from my own.”
“At 52 years old, I finally feel comfortable and proud of all the hard work I’ve put into my body,” Shields said.
As one of the stars of the new ad campaign for the inclusive swimwear company, Swimsuits For All, Shields proudly flaunts her fit frame with confidence.
After a successful career in modelling and acting, Shields says the is no quick-fix or secret to her toned body.
“It’s all about balance. There’s no set way to be healthy and fit, it really is finding what works for you,” she said. “I always try to drink a lot of water, get a good night’s sleep and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.”
The new campaign features women of various ages, sizes and occupations. Alongside model Ashley Graham, Shields looks sultry alongside nurse practitioner Katie Duke, pro-swimmer Pat Gallant Charette and reality TV star, Angela Simmons.
“When I was younger, I never loved being in a swimsuit because I picked apart the way I looked in them. I would always find a way to cover up,” Shields revealed. “Now, I feel most confident when I’m showing off my body rather than hiding it.”
