6 of the Most Awkward People's Choice Awards Moments Ever

Two things are always guaranteed to happen during every awards show: someone will ~mysteriously~ walk the red carpet without their S.O. and another person will be caught on camera doing something super cringy and awkward. Honestly, it never fails.

And the People's Choice Awards is no exception. Sure, it's fun to get to vote on who wins, unlike the Oscars or Emmys, but it's even more fun to watch our faves inadvertently make fools of themselves onstage. (Don't lie; you know it's what gets you through the 2-hour show.)

When: 2014

What happened: The duo won for Favorite On-Screen Chemistry for The Vampire Diaries, where they played on-screen lovers. They were lovers off-screen, too... until they weren't.

During their clearly pre-rehearsed speech, they said how they started dating on the show, then started dating IRL, then broke up IRL, but were still dating on the show.

"It’s a good thing it’s not awkward. Well, it’s a good thing we have chemistry," Nina said.

When: 2011

What happened: Host Queen Latifah geeked out over seeing Twilight stars Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, and Robert Pattinson. It was a painfully scripted moment and you could see the uneasiness on the actors' faces. She also kept calling them by their characters' names, not they're actual names.

When: 2013

What happened: After Taylor won for Favorite Country Singer, she was handed her award, only to quickly have it taken out of her hands by presenter Olivia.

Olivia jokingly pulled a Kanye West, channeling that infamous moment from the VMAs when Kanye interrupted Taylor's speech to basically say Beyoncé should've won.

"This always happens," Taylor said, of getting her award taken away. To which Olivia replied, "And it will always happen, Taylor. This is your lot in life."

When: 2016

What happened: When the Fifty Shades of Grey star went to accept the award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress, her dress accidentally broke after hugging Leslie Mann. She played off the moment by saying, "Well, it's not like nobody here hasn't already seen my boobs."

When: 2017

What happened: It was awkward enough that both Zayn and Niall were nominated for the same award after One Direction broke up, but then Niall went and won it. This means fans voted him over Zayn.

When: 2018

What happened: When Blake Shelton won for Country Artist of 2018, The Voice host Carson started massaging his co-star's shoulders. While that was awkward enough, then Blake's fellow The Voice co-star and girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, gave him a kiss — which Carson then decided to join in on like they're on the opening of Friends.
