Allen Clemmons found himself in a life-threatening situation on Saturday afternoon, when he was working on his Mustang in his backyard in South Carolina. While attempting to remove the transmission, he became stuck beneath the car when it slipped off the blocks and the jack that was holding it up. Clemmons called for help — but he never would have expected just who came to his rescue.

After some time shouting for help, Clemmons told WAFF-TV, he was having an increasingly difficult time breathing. “I asked God to help me, to give me one more holler and send an angel my way. The last holler before I give up.” And luckily, 9-year-old neighbor Malachi was just in reach of that last call.

“I was playing outside and I heard someone yelling,” Malachi told the local news affiliate. “He was saying something like he was stuck, but I didn’t know what he meant.” But then he found Clemmons stuck alongside a car jack — one that the young boy’s uncle fortunately had taught him how to work.

Lying on his side, Clemmons was able to guide Malachi in getting the jack back under the car. Once the man was relieved of the car’s weight, the young boy hurried over to his aunt’s house to call for help. Moments later, a tow truck arrived and a group of people helped to get Clemmons out from under the car.

The man was flown to Palmetto Health in Columbia, where he is now recovering from several injuries, including six broken ribs and a fractured pelvis. As for young Malachi, he sends his well wishes to Clemmons and plans on visiting him in the hospital soon.

“I don’t think I would have survived another 30 minutes,” Clemmons said of Malachi’s help. “He is truly my guardian angel.”
