Activists protest at UN Ocean Conference
STORY: A fishy protest is taking place
outside the UN Ocean conference
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
These climate activists
want to raise awareness
about overfishing
and plastic pollution
EXTINCTION REBELLION, ROB HIGGS:
“We need to end all industrial fishing, particularly boat controlling, but we need to end this now. The oceans are empty, we are catching less fish now that we were thirty years ago with all the advances and technologies. The seas are dying and we need an appropriate urgency that we are not seeing from our leaders.”
7000 people are expected
to attend the conference
It will assess the world's progress
in protecting marine life
EXTINCTION REBELLION, SOPHIE MILLER SAYING:
"Unless they do something, nothing is going to change, and everything is going to continue on this terrible trajectory to three degrees or more and a totally uninhabitable planet. I don’t think they are brave enough to do it."
