Alastair Campbell opened Wednesday's Good Morning Britain with a bagpipe rendition of Three Lions.

The guest presenter gave his musical performance of the famous football song by the Lightning Seeds, David Baddiel and Frank Skinner ahead of England's Euro 2020 semi final match against Denmark tonight (7 July).

Campbell, who has Scottish parents, played the woodwind instrument while standing in the studio in front of screens showing waving England flags.

He had teased his appearance earlier in the day on Twitter.

The 64-year-old wrote: "Moment of truth shortly upon us … being asked … does a [Scotland] fan (aka moi) support [England] tonight? Any Italians and any @Baddiel people please tune in just before 7 @gmb… certain tunes as you have never heard them before."

Campbell has said he plays the bagpipes to relieve stress.

During the pandemic, he recorded a charity song written by Martin Gillespie of Scottish band Skerryvor, titled Everyday Heroes, which topped the iTunes download charts and raised money for NHS charities.

The former spin doctor returned to guest present GMB after making his debut in May.

Piers Morgan has not yet been replaced by a full-time host since his exit earlier this year while Susanna Reid has fronted the programme alongside guests such as Campbell, Richard Madeley and Martin Lewis.

Tuesday night saw Italy triumph over Spain for a place in the Euros final on Sunday. Either England or Denmark will face them at Wembley on Sunday 11 July.
