Alessandra Ambrosio Is an Angel Even Without Victoria's Secret

Alessandra Ambrosio has established herself as an angel on the Victoria’s Secret catwalks, catalogs, and commercials, but she just proved she’s celestial in other realms, as well. No, she didn’t die and go to heaven, but it felt like we did when we saw her in the Ralph & Russo Haute Couture Spring Summer 2017 show during Paris Fashion Week.

The Brazilian model closed the show on Monday in a hand embellished bridal gown, topped with a dramatic feathered cape. The gown was made of white tulle and pale gray organza, and covered in crystals, glass bead hand embroidery, and metallic floral appliqués.

It’s the cape on top of the crystallized gown that really took our breath away. As she walked down the runway, the feathers flickered behind her, as if she were debuting a coveted new Fantasy Bra, and the cape filled the floor. She then lifted her cape and we gasped — it was like her wings opened and she was about to take flight. From the back, all you could see was the billowing white cape, which could easily have been two huge angel wings tucked against her back.

As Ralph & Russo noted, “the reciprocal action of geometric lines, latex appliqué, and the effortless ebb of frills, degradé ostrich feathers, and diaphanous chiffon trains interconnect like longitudes and latitudes in homage to women; all.”

According to the brand, the collection’s theme explored the “coexistence of urban and natural spheres, interpreting contemporary femininity through its opposites.”

The U.K.-based fashion house clearly knew what they were doing when they tapped the VS-vet to model this voluminous ensemble. No one knows how to carry feathers like Ambrosio, who’s worn elaborate wings on the runway a time or two.
