As the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez quickly made waves in Washington in terms of both her progressive policies and her style. The 29-year-old New Yorker’s decision to wear gold hoops at her swearing-in ceremony and then to the president’s State of the Union address was praised by young women — and the freshman congresswoman has finally revealed where she bought them.

“In case anyone wants to know, this is where I get [sic] my gold hoops for my swearing-in,” Ocasio-Cortez said in her Instagram Stories on Sunday.

She tagged the location as Stars Jewelry in the Bronx, urging her fans to support a local business. The store is located in the congressional district she represents.

After the internet freaked out over her swearing-in look, the congresswoman explained that the gold hoops and red lipstick were inspired by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor — the first Latina to sit on the Supreme Court bench and a fellow Bronx native from a Puerto Rican family. Ocasio-Cortez said Sotomayor was told to wear “neutral-colored nail polish” at her confirmation hearings in 2009, but Sotomayor apparently kept her nails red anyway.

Ocasio-Cortez made it very clear that she hoped her hoops and red lips sent the message that girls don’t have to dress a certain way to be successful.

Ocasio-Cortez was born and raised in the Bronx and recently moved to a new apartment in her neighborhood.
