Yahoo Canada's Shopping Editor put Alo Yoga's celeb-approved leggings to the test to see if they're worth the hype — and the money.

Here's what you need to know at a glance:

  • 💵 Price: $205 CAD/$128 USD

  • Our rating: 4/5

  • 🛍️ Reasons to buy: These popular leggings offer a lightweight fit to "lift, sculpt, contour and smooth"

  • Reasons to avoid: Price is biggest reason to steer clear of these celeb-approved leggings, but they're worth the splurge if it's in your budget.

When it comes to the world of celebrity activewear, one brand reigns supreme, and that's Alo Yoga. The L.A.-based retailer specializes in high-quality, technically-advanced gear, with stars like Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Olivia Wilde and Hailey Bieber often spotted in the luxe activewear.

Given my recent success with celeb-approved products, I decided to give Alo Yoga a try, starting with their most popular leggings, the 7/8 High-Waist Airlift Legging.

Made from Alo Yoga's sculpting Airlift fabric, these leggings are designed to "lift, sculpt, contour and smooth" your figure. They have four way stretch to move with you in the studio and beyond, with a second-skin fit that's comfortable and lightweight.

While I opted for the 7/8 legging as a better option for my 5'3" height, you can also find these leggings in a full-length version if you need the extra length.

You can shop them in sizes XXS to XL in two core colours (black and grey), plus a constantly rotating selection of limited-edition shades.

The test

Summer may not have officially arrived, but for many cities across the country, that hasn't stopped the summer-like temperatures. On a recent 32°C day, I thought I'd put Alo Yoga's claims that these leggings help you "breeze through hot yoga" to see how they truly perform in the heat.

My yoga studio is about a 10-minute walk from my house, and the leggings easily withstood the trip there — no sweat stains or sticky legs in sight. I expected to feel more constricted because of the smooth, compressive fabric, but they also felt surprisingly light on.

During the yoga class, I was equally as impressed by the leggings since they stayed comfortably in place with only minor adjustments necessary halfway through. I found that the high waistband did roll down a little, but that could just be because of my height and where it hits me at my natural waist.

I was a little worried about feeling overheated in these leggings, since I usually tend to wear shorts during warm weather workouts. However, I'm happy to report that the Airlift fabric is as breezy as it claims to be, and kept me feeling cool and dry throughout my practice — and even through the walk home.

What others are saying

The 7/8 High-Waist Airlift Legging have earned a 4.3-star average rating from more than 2,300 Alo Yoga customer reviews.

Shoppers have praised their "great compression fabric" and "perfect fit."

"I'm a big fan of Alo Airlift leggings in the 7/8 length! I have several colours and wear them for barre and HIIT workouts," one person shared.

"Love the slight sheen, the fabric sort of flows and is very flattering," added another.

While I found that the leggings were pretty true to size, some reviewers thought that the leggings run slightly small. If you're in-between sizes or want a more relaxed fit, you may want to follow their advice and opt for a size up.

"These leggings are very nice quality but were extremely tight," reads one review. "I wear a medium [but] In the Airlift, I would need at least a large."

Final verdict

After giving the Alo Yoga Airlift Leggings a try, I can see why they've earned such a cult following among celebrities and shoppers. They feel supportive but not restrictive, are super lightweight, and even kept me cool on the hottest day of the year so far. I can see myself turning to these leggings throughout summer, especially on sweltering days when I still want to squeeze in a workout.

Now, for the downside: the price. At $205 CAD (duties included, luckily), these are easily the most expensive leggings I've ever owned, which is why I knocked one star off my rating. The leggings are well worth the splurge if it's in your budget, but if not and you still want to give them a try, check out Alo's sale section to find a pair that won't break the bank.
