Alyssa Milano finds common ground with Republicans on impeachment proceedings

Alyssa Milano joined Cuomo Prime Time Tuesday night where the actress-turned-activist found common ground with Republicans in expressing frustration with the impeachment process. But with the House set to vote on Thursday how the impeachment will proceed, Milano also praised the Democrats handling of it thus far.

“I think like most Democrats that have the privilege to be concerned about what this president has done, you know, I’m very impatient. I wanted this vote to happen last week,” Milano said. “But for me, I can totally rationalize and really objectively look at how brilliant the Democrats have handled the situation up to now with a very steadfast strategy.”

Despite Republicans repeatedly lauding the importance of closed-door hearings when they controlled the House, one of the party’s main objections to the impeachment process is that, so far, every deposition has been behind closed doors. But that’s about to change as Democrats introduced a plan on Tuesday that set the stage for public hearings, and for Milano, that can’t come soon enough.

“I’m satisfied, and yet I’m very anxious to get these open hearings underway,” Milano said, “so that we, the American people, can really see what’s going on.”

Although the impeachment process has been undertaken according to House rules set by Republicans in 2015, Donald Trump and his lawyers have complained about a lack of due process. Fortunately for them, the plan set forth on Tuesday includes the eventual participation of the president and his counsel. And Milano was quick to point out that those complaints were unfounded to begin with.

“It’s about protecting the Constitution. It’s also about due process, which the president keeps screaming about,” Milano said, adding, “which is ridiculous that there’s been no due process. But, President Trump, that’s actually what impeachment is. It is due process.”

Cuomo Prime Time airs weeknights at 9 p.m. on CNN.
