Amal Clooney Just Re-Wore One of Her Old Favorite Dresses on Zoom

The other day, I found myself wondering about Amal Clooney. The way the mind works in quarantine is a wondrous thing, really, and I cannot even begin to tell you where or why or how my Amal Clooney train of thought began. Netflix was involved, most likely. I probably came across her husband in a movie I forgot about and then couldn’t help but wonder what his better half was up to in These Times. And I also couldn’t help but wonder what she was wearing in these circumstances, because I am only human and frivolous thoughts are all that keep me sane These Days.

As it turns out, Amal Clooney is as fabulous as ever. She’s fighting for human rights, as one does. And while some of us are complaining about the luxury of getting to work from home, Clooney is arguing for equality and justice and all the things we need more of right now seamlessly from home — and doing so in some timeless trends.

During an Australian senate inquiry, Clooney made a digital appearance and urged the country to pass the Global Magnitsky Act in order to protect human rights. She did so while wearing a simple black top with an elegant structured neckline, which is apparently the move on Zoom among fancy ladies like herself and Kate Middleton.

And during a virtual IBM think tank event earlier this month, Clooney wore a white Chanel pleated silk dress, bringing new meaning to the concept of “beauty and brains.” She’s clearly using this time inside to become better acquainted with the best pieces in her closet, since the pleated dress is one she’s worn more than a handful of times.

Now while I am certainly not dressing up for my happy hour Zooms in fun necklines or suiting up for a call with the Australian government in a pleated designer dress, I am definitely taking style notes from Amal Clooney. But I always do that, pandemic thought-spiral or not. She just does timeless elegance like no one else right now. And when I finally do make it back out to the real world and take my not-nearly-as-fancy-or-important meetings with IRL humans again, I think either of these classic trends would look great.
