While we can all think of a million things we’d rather do than another load of laundry, there are ways to make the daunting task more environmentally friendly and efficient. Wool dryer balls are a popular alternative to the classic dryer sheets, which are a one-time-use product and not entirely good for the planet.

S&T Wool Dryer Balls are made from natural New Zealand wool, and help to soften and fluff your clothes in less time than sheets.

What are they?

S&T Wool Dryer Balls are tiny spheres of natural wool that promise to dry clothes evenly, reduce static and cut back drying time. These dryer balls are all-natural and eco-friendly, and will leave your clothes soft, fluffed and fresh in no time.

Unlike many other products on the market, the S&T Wool Dryer balls don't use harsh chemicals, making it easier for people with sensitive skin. If you think you’ll be missing your favourite scented dryer sheets, it is recommended to use essential oils on the wool balls to give your clean laundry a custom scent.

How do they work?

These wool spheres prevent clothes from clumping together while drying. They boost the drying process by retaining heat from the dryer, individually spreading heat throughout the wet laundry.

These dryer balls are made from 100 per cent New Zealand wool. They don’t contain any synthetic scents or chemicals that can cause irritation for young children and those with sensitive skin.

What people are saying

These dryer balls are all-natural, eco-friendly and chemical-free, and have received 4.3 stars on Amazon with more than 450 ratings.

“Sheets and pillow cases come out practically wrinkle-free, compared to the twisted wrinkly mess I used to get. Comforters and blankets as well dry much quicker, my queen size feather duvet used to take two cycles on the heavy-duty setting, and it was completely dry after one. Want to fluff your pillows? No problem, 10 minutes in the dryer with 3 balls,” says one review.

“I can finally dry king size sheets without the sheets tangling in a ball and staying damp in the middle. The towels seem a little fluffier, but maybe I’m imagining it! My sheets are dry, I have no static cling, and my loads are drying faster!” reads another.

While the S&T Wool Dryer Balls have received a lot of love on Amazon, there are still some customers who found the laundry essential didn’t quite live up to the hype.

“Have been using these dryer balls for one month now. Started off using 4, then 5 and now all 6 balls in a load. They absolutely did not reduce drying times whatsoever. I haven't noticed any real difference as far as wrinkles, but most of my clothes do not get wrinkles from washing and drying,” says one customer.

“I don't think I've figured them out scent-wise yet. I have been putting 1-2 drops of essential oils per ball, and I haven't been able to smell anything on the clothes yet. They really do help dry the clothes faster, and I haven't noticed any wrinkles. That being said, I do still find the clothes have more static than dryer sheets. But, this is the perfect solution for my daughter with eczema and severely sensitive skin,” adds another.

The verdict

Whether you’re looking to be more environmentally friendly, have sensitive skin or simply like the idea of ditching dryer sheets forever, the S&T Wool Dryer Balls could be an all-natural solution for you. However, when it comes to adding scent and the size of your laundry load, the wool balls require a bit of trial and error.
