Angellica Aribam: The Unshakable Political Voice of North-East India
Meet our ChangeMAKER, Angellica Aribam. Hailing from Imphal, Manipur, Angellica is a force of nature like no other. After moving from Manipur to Delhi, she was witness and subject to racial and gender discrimination. Personally facing the kind of violence intersectional and marginalised communities go through, Angellica was determined to make her voice heard and represent her people from the North-East of India; people who, despite being citizens of the country, often get treated as immigrants and outsiders. Today she is a political activist, and perhaps one of the only few women, more so from the North-Eastern community, in the Indian political sphere. With a mission in mind, for greater representation and justice for women and the North-Eastern community, Angellica has been a crucial advocate of several causes that have come to the forefront. These causes include net neutrality, hygienic menstrual care products in prisons, the Women's Reservation Bill. Keeping her vision in mind, to create more space and providing quality education for women want to enter the political arena, she even founded the Femme First Foundation last year.
