Amy Schumer Diagnosed with Lyme Disease

Amy Schumer Had the Best Response to a Commenter Who Asked How She’d “Cope” If Her Son Had Autism

"This might be the greatest response in the history of Instagram comments."

Amy Schumer's latest throwback may look like just another childhood photo — she mentioned her "first ever fishing pole" — she used the opportunity to let her followers know that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease.

"Anyone get LYME this summer? I got it and I'm on doxycycline," Schumer wrote. "I have maybe had it for years. Any advice? Can you have a glass of wine or 2 on it?"

"I know to stay out of the sun. I'm also taking these herbs from cape cod called lyme-2," Schumer added. She also asked her followers to comment with their own experiences handling the disease. "I also want to say that I feel good and am excited to get rid of it," she finished.

People notes that Lyme disease is a "potentially debilitating infection" that's spread through a bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi. It's transmitted through infected black-legged ticks. Symptoms can include headaches, joint pain, fatigue, and other things that can be similar to the flu. Late-stage symptoms can also include "paralysis, agonizing joint pain, neurological problems, severe headaches, problems with memory, hearing, and vision, inflammation of the brain, and inflammation of the heart."

Dr. Raphael Kellman told People that symptoms can come and go and range in severity.

"It could be post-exertional fatigue or fatigue they have one day and then the next day they feel somewhat better," Kellman said. "Typically, Lyme disease is associated with a brain fog, headaches, difficulty concentrating [...] muscle, and joint pain, tingling, and numbness, neck pain, sometimes palpitations, different types of neurological symptoms. Anxiety is one of the symptoms as well, and sometimes the anxiety can be debilitating and can even present as panic attacks."

Justin Bieber, Yolanda and Bella Hadid, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, Ben Stiller, and Kelly Osbourne have also been diagnosed with Lyme disease.
