The Colorado Avalanche couldn't keep everyone.

Fresh off winning a second Stanley Cup with a second franchise in his short career, Andre Burakovsky is set to join the Seattle Kraken on a five-year deal worth $27.5 million.

Burakovsky will earn a $600,000 raise with the agreement, costing the Kraken $5.5 million per season on the long-term contract.

Eight seasons into his NHL tenure, Burakovsky has settled into a role as a quintessential complementary scorer. He averaged 0.79 points per game across three seasons with the Avalanche, finishing each season in the neighbourhood of 20 goals.

That said, Burakovsky's totals from last season surpassed that of any Kraken player in the franchise's inaugural season. So while it's possible Burakovsky can improve on those totals in a heightened role in Seattle, the 27-year-old has historically been best suited as a pop of offence in the middle portion of an NHL lineup.

He scored three times and totalled eight points in 12 playoff games, missing time with injury during Colorado's run to the Stanley Cup. His best moment came in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final when he scored the overtime winner.

Burakovsky's previous championship came with the Washington Capitals in 2018.

Despite losing Burakovsky, in addition to netminder Darcy Kuemper and presumably Nazem Kadri, the Avalanche have managed to keep several key pieces in the system. Valeri Nichushkin, Artturi Lehkonen, Josh Manson, Darren Helm and Andrew Cogliano have each re-upped with the defending champions since their Stanley Cup celebration.
