Angelina Jolie Shared Photos of Her Kids on Instagram for the First Time

After officially joining Instagram, breaking records, and imploring her followers to help the women and children fleeing Afghanistan, Angelina Jolie used her Instagram feed for something a bit more lighthearted. In a new post, she shares rare, at-home snapshots of two of her children reading their "end of summer" books and asks her fans for some recommendations of their own.

The first shot shows 16-year-old Zahara Jolie-Pitt reading The Bluest Eye, Toni Morrison's 1970 novel. The second highlights a newer book, The Dark Lady by Akala, which hit shelves this year, and a partially obscured kid that may be a bit more camera shy than their sister. Truly something for everyone. And while Jolie only spotlighted two of her kids, she has five others who will hopefully appear on the account and share their book picks for bibliophile fans and anyone looking for something to close out the summer reading season.

Jolie already has more than 10 million followers and, according to a source from Entertainment Tonight, felt compelled to join the social media platform to bring attention to the injustices in Afghanistan.

"Angie felt compelled to join in a moment when women and young people in Afghanistan are losing the ability to communicate on social media and express themselves freely," the source said. "From her point of view, if she's able to be a part of the effort to amplify their voices, then she felt it was reason enough to join and use her platform."
