It's been more than 15 years since "Josie in the Pussycats" hit theaters in 2001 -- and, at the time, it didn't make much of an impact. But over the years, it's become something of a cult classic, gaining new fans year after year not only for the movie, but also for its grrrrl-power soundtrack.

Leading ladies Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid and Rosario Dawson reunited Tuesday in Los Angeles along with the film's co-writers and directors, who opened up to Billboard about some secrets behind the fan favorite flick. Like this incredible nugget:

"The list of people who auditioned to be in this movie ... the fact that Beyonce, Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes and Aaliyah came in to audition was crazy," said co-director Harry Elfont. "Beyonce was really quiet and shy. Who knew?"

As for Aaliyah, she "was more serious and thoughtful," Elfont explained. "We wanted someone who could really play the comedy."

The perfect trio was found in Cook, Reid and Dawson, who were thrilled to have the chance to catch up at the reunion.

"The band is back together," Reid declared in a celebratory Instagram.

Josie and the Pussycats was originally created in the '60s as Archie Comics characters. They've found a reincarnation in the CW's new series "Riverdale."
