Apparently We Should All Be Peeing In The Shower

There are two kinds of people in the world: those that do and those that don’t pee in the shower.

If you fall into the go with the shower flow camp you’re certainly not alone as a recent survey revealed that a whopping 61% of Americans admit to killing two birds with one shower head! (41% also admit to peeing in a swimming pool, but that’s a whole other article)

But before you head off in search of the anti-bac wipes, consider the fact that peeing in the shower might not be as gross as you might think.

In fact according to MIC peeing in the shower could actually be rather good for the world. And it’s all to do with saving water. The Environmental Protection Agency says that 1.6 gallons of water are wasted every time we flush the toilet. If the average adult urinates around seven times daily, this means that 42 litres of water are being used to flush the urine away. In a year, the average person would have used 15,330 litres or 4,050 gallons of water to flush. Which is really quite a lot, right?

Now let’s say you multi-task by peeing in the shower just once a day for a year, by the time you’re toasting the new year you’ll have saved a really quite impressive 584 gallons of water, or 2,190 litres. Just imagine how much water we could save if we all did it?

And, for anyone thinking its still pretty grim to be weeing while you wash, let us reassure you that while urine isn’t sterile, its actually not toxic and shouldn’t cause you any harm as long as you don’t have an infection. That being said, we would recommend digging out those anti-bac wipes if you fancy a long, lingering soak in the bath tub later.

So next time you’re in the shower weighing up the pee or not to pee dilemma, go ahead and give it a whirl. The environment said you should.
