Ariana Grande Calls Music Leaks “Disheartening,” Urges Fans to “Please Stop”
Ariana Grande is urging fans to stop spreading her unreleased music in another leaked track situation.
Last month, a demo that fans called “Fantasize” was released on Spotify under the title “But just before I go, there's something you should know” by user “Adriana Venti” — a play on Grande's name. The song reportedly made it to the Philippines' Spotify Daily Top Songs list and was streamed more than 70,000 times before the music streaming platform removed it.
The song has since gone viral on TikTok and even inspired a dance. Grande herself eventually commented on the situation under a since-deleted video which according to multiple reports, explained where “Fantasize” came from. The singer said that she “wrote this for a comedy sketch about a girl group” and urged people to “please stop spreading leaks.”
“oh this is so disheartening,” Grande continued, according to screenshots. “I was going to come back to this hook to use eventually. i don't know how people are still doing this but please stop.”
In a makeup tutorial video posted on Grande's r.e.m. beauty YouTube channel in April, the singer answered fan questions and addressed previous leaks. At one point she said, “You guys have heard every bad song and bullsh*t demo that I've ever made.”
“Hilarious,” she continued. “It's impossible to keep things from you. You gotta take some swings and misses.”
The social media user who claims to be behind the leak, @LovingJaxx, wrote that they have since gone to court and have been hit with a $10,000 fine, along with 48 hours of community service.
Teen Vogue has reached out to Ariana Grande's team for comment, along with Spotify to confirm that the person allegedly behind the leak has been fined.
The singer has taken a break from releasing new music after she began preparing and filming the movie adaptation of Wicked. Production has since halted due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The Broadway musical is slated to be split into two films, with Grande playing the role of Glinda.
