Between used tubes of lipstick, dried out nail polish bottles and empty compacts, the cosmetics industry is one of the worst perpetrators of waste. Wanting to draw attention to this, Lithuanian artist Agne Kisonaite began transforming waste into art.

“While painting my nails, I’d always look at these bottles of nail polish, thinking: how playfully colors make their way through the thick glass! Once it hit me that all used bottles of nail polish could be glued together,” she says on her website.

All together, she collected 5,000 bottles of nail polish from landfills, separating them in to 21 different shades. She then glued them to a board where they depicted a set of lips blowing through a straw, which was a play on the art technique glass blowing.

For her next project, she tackled lipstick tubes.

“Did you know that lipstick tubes are not recycled? That’s why I have transformed these tubes into a piece of art containing 5000 lipsticks,” she says on her website.
