Artist Turns Stretch Marks Into Rainbow Works of Art

Cinta Tort Cartró, artistically known as Zinteta, creates captivating works of art that celebrate the female body, in all its most perfectly imperfect forms. From coloring in stretch marks to normalizing menstruation, the art certainly evokes emotion and sometimes even controversy.

Cartró tells Yahoo Beauty, “It all started as a form of expression, but it quickly turned into social commentary of the male-dominated culture we live in.”

The 21-year-old, who lives in a small town outside of Barcelona, Spain, is using her talents to educate others in her community on feminism and create awareness about pervasive racism. With over 13,000 Instagram followers, her message is certainly resonating with people outside of her geographic community as well.

Cartró recently graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Barcelona but has always loved to create art, which remains her true passion as well as her means of speaking out about what’s happening in the world around her.

“There are many things happening in my town that I couldn’t be silent on,” she says, “such as the male microaggression toward the female body. I know there are countries that have it worse than here in Spain, but I couldn’t stay silent.”

Her latest series is #manchoynomedoyasco, which translates into “I stain myself, and I’m not grossed-out by it.” Through this series of work, Cartró aims to normalize menstruation.

“We live in 2017. Why is there still stigma revolving around periods?” she says.

She is also passionate about creating art that celebrates all types of beauty not reflected in the mainstream media.

“I grew up feeling sometimes out of place. I’m tall and big, so it’s important for me to state in my art that everyone is beautiful and those ‘flaws’ are not that. They make us unique and special.”

As mentioned, Cartró is also passionate about addressing and ending racism in her community and creates art that celebrates people of every skin tone. “I don’t like the way foreigners are treated sometimes here. I’m all about embracing those that need help so everyone can live a great life,” she says.

What’s next for this talented young woman? She is headed to get her master’s in illustration. We can’t wait to see what she tackles next through her art.
