Bachelor Stars Are Revealing Unfiltered Photos, and People Are Loving It

Former star on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe is a social media selfie queen, but for one of her most recent photos she showed us a candid side of her that we aren’t used to seeing.

On Instagram, Bristowe allowed us to get up close and personal by sharing a picture of herself without makeup, hair extensions, or flattering filters. Comparing the shot with her previous post, her caption read, “Same wall, same camera, same angle, no make up, no extensions, no filters…No problem.”

The 31-year-old continued by challenging her followers to post a real photo of themselves once a week. “A pic that shows we are confident enough to be happy with who we are. Because what’s more beautiful than that,” she wrote.

People were obsessed with Bristowe’s photo and her proposition. One person, admiring her natural beauty, wrote, “Seriously still just as beautiful. More actually.” Another excited supporter wrote, “Loveeeeee that you’re using your platform to be REAL!”

Soon after, Jade Elizabeth Roper, another popular Bachelor star, followed suit and also shared an makeup-free version of herself on Facebook. “This is the person the people closest to me get to see when my guard is down and I can just be me,” she wrote. The photo shared was of herself “with no makeup, greasy hair, and wearing a workout hoodie that is now way too small for my growing belly.”

Her caption continued: “When depression has increased in young girls and teen girls by 70 percent because of the real-life comparison to Instagram perfection, we aren’t doing our job right. Instagram is pretend, it is a form of escapism, and we need to teach our children what they see isn’t the whole picture.”

Roper’s follow-up Facebook post to Bristowe’s Instagram call-out was inspiring and already has received nearly 3,000 likes. Cheering her on, one person left a comment, “I love this post!! It’s so true & hits home because we are all beautiful in the skin we’re in!! It’s not the makeup, that’s just a cover!! I’m 54 & I go w/o makeup more now than ever before because I can show my natural beauty!!”

With the influx of heavily retouched photos, filters, and layers of makeup, it’s refreshing to see people use their social media platforms to step away from what is oddly becoming the new normal and show a side of themselves that’s more natural and authentic.
