2016 has been a tough year for all of us, and it’s easy to feel that all beauty has been sucked out of the world.
But thanks to one man from Atlanta, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Blix is a gay professional mermaid who eats and breathes the merman lifestyle, and has recently won over the entire internet as a result.

He’s not only fantastic thanks to the whole professional-merman thing, either, as he’s challenging mermaid stereotypes too. Because think about your archetypal merman - he’s blonde and blue eyed, right?
Blix told Metro that he’s been “living the merman life ever since (he) was young”:
“I’ve been swimming since I was a kid and pretending to have a tail was always a thing to do at the pool,’ he explained.
“Once I got my first tail, the swimming was second nature.”

And for him, having a tail is no game - it’s a lifestyle choice.
“I eat, sleep and breathe mermaids, merman – the whole life,” he said.
“My family knew I was a merman for a very long time because I used to wrap my feet up in blankets and shape it into a mermaid form.”

And when it comes to blowing stereotypes out of the water, Blix is your merman. He said that he’s even had kids come up to him to tell him there’s no such thing as a black mermaid, to which he has a clear answer:
“And I’m like, ‘No baby, don’t say that – that should make you want to be one. You can be the first!”

Blix has a very inclusive attitude to anyone who wants to become a merman, too: “Being a merman has taught me to just be free, not to care what anyone thinks – be like the ocean, just be free, follow your own current, love your self,” he said.
“No matter what anybody says, if you want to wear a tail, put on a tail and be a mer.”
New life motto, anyone?
