When Miley Cyrus posed for Annie Leibovitz in 2008, her fans went nuts. The provocative spread for Vanity Fair, which featured Cyrus semi-nude wrapped in a sheet, effectively squashed the Disney image the star had built up. Millions began to see her in a different light.

It looks like Bella Thorne is on a similar path. The 19-year-old actress, who got her start on the Disney Channel series Shake It Up, recently posed for the November issue of Playboy. Thorne is featured in the magazine’s “No Filter” section in a number of racy shots, which were photographed by Chloe Aftel.

In one of the shots, Thorne is seen leaning against a wall in a red satin bomber jacket with “Bowie” inscribed on the back. Another features the actress in a sexy red silk evening gown.

The outspoken young woman, who is known for posting provocative content on her channels, also spoke to the magazine about the intense criticism she receives from the media and how she reacts to it.

“For me, that means people are constantly trying to change me, every second of the day, especially on social media,” Thorne shared. “I’m not fed up with social media — I understand it — but people like to comment on how my image is too edgy, that I’m too edgy, and on how they wish I looked. It’s a lot of ‘Do this, don’t do that.’ To them I say, f*** off.”

She touched on embracing one’s own skin and accepting your body — both topics she is passionate about — in the spread.

“There’s this effort to try to shame a woman’s sexiness by pulling a cover over it, but I’m a woman who loves skin,” she said. “I love skin on me, I love skin on girls, I love skin on guys. If you’re confident enough to show off your body, you should. Be confident.”

Thorne also recently made headlines when she came out as bisexual by simply replying “yes” when a fan asked her directly on Twitter. Sadly, she divulged that her signature openness wasn’t warmly received by some Hollywood executives.
