Biden responds to Trump impeachment inquiry and Giuliani's allegations

Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday where he responded to the evolving Trump impeachment inquiry. Biden's appearance came on the same day the White House released a phone transcript memo that confirmed President Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate Biden and his son for corruption.

"Based on the material that they acknowledged today, it seems to me it's awful hard to avoid the conclusion that it is an impeachable offense and a violation of constitutional responsibility," said Biden in response to Trump's phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Biden opened the interview by rating the past 48 hours an "18 out of 10" on the outlandish scale while joking that Rudy Guiliani was a great character witness for the president. In response, Kimmel said, "It's hard to believe he was mayor of New York at one time and seemed to be doing an OK job. It's like his body has been taken over by another being."

Giuliani's pushed the Biden corruption theory for some time, but the allegations reached new heights last week when Giuliani admitted to urging the Ukraine government to investigate Biden and his son during a bizarre interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo.

Kimmel asked the former VP if he's personally troubled by Trump and Giuliani’s repeated Ukraine allegations. Biden responded, "This is not about me and my family. There's not one single solitary legitimate journalist in the world who has given any credibility to this. They've debunked all of what he had to say since Giuliani started this a while ago."

Biden said there's a lot more at stake than bizarre behavior from the President and his lawyer. While discussing the troubling specifics of Wednesday's White House memo, Biden called Trump's attempt to involve the Justice Department "blatant abuse of power."

And though Biden told Kimmel that he's on board with the impeachment hearing, he made it clear that it's not his primary focus. "I'm confident in the ability of the house and senate to deal with this. My job is to just go out and flat beat him," said Biden, followed by cheers from the audience.

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
