Billie Eilish has opened up about meeting members of the British royal family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, at the No Time to Die premiere in September earlier this year.
The Happier Than Ever singer and her brother Finneas O’Connell were introduced to Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince William and Kate Middleton on 28 September as they attended the London premiere of the latest James Bond film, No Time to Die.
And errr, it seems like Billie may have forgotten a royal protocol, or two. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she was asked if there were any royal protocols she had to adhere to ahead of meeting the royals. She confirmed, "Oh yeah. There was a whole list of things I had to follow," prompting Jimmy Kimmel to ask, "Did you pay attention to those rules?"
At this point, Billie shook her head and mouthed "no," before adding that the royal family came across as very normal so she didn't feel she had to be scared of them.
Billie explained, "I tried to [follow royal protocol]. I was planning on it and they were just so normal, like they didn’t make me feel like: ‘Oh, I’m scared, I can’t talk to them," adding that, "They were very complimentary and they had all these questions for me and they were just very friendly and, like, funny and sweet.
"I don’t know, I can’t complain, it was amazing."
According to the official royal family website, "There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms."
The traditional forms include first addressing the Queen as 'Your Majesty' and thereafter as 'Ma'am,' while for male members of the royal family the title used in the first instance is 'Your Royal Highness' and subsequently 'Sir'.
It's also traditional for men to do a neck bow, while women do a small courtesy, although the website adds, "Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way."
Judging from the photos taken of Billie shaking Kate Middleton's hand, it seems she went for the slightly less formal option.
Luckily we don't think the royals minded too much, eh?
