BLACKPINK and Netflix Teamed Up for a Documentary
It's called Light Up the Sky.
Blackpink is coming to your area with a documentary to coincide with the release of their very first full-length album, The Album. Entertainment Weekly reports that the K-pop supergroup and Netflix teamed up for the streaming service's very first K-pop documentary, titled Light Up the Sky, set to be released on October 14. To commemorate the movie, Netflix is also offering up profile icons of the group members, Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé.
Salt Fat Acid Heat director Caroline Suh is in charge of Light Up the Sky, which will trace the group back to its trainee days in 2016 — doing double duty to showcase the group's roots and demystify the entire K-pop world — and go up to the present time with Blackpink dominating charts around the world. The movie wraps up with Blackpink's 2019 Coachella performance.

"The K-pop phenomenon has been sweeping the globe and Blackpink has arguably become the most recognizable and most popular girl group in the world," Adam Del Deo, Netflix's vice president of documentary features, said in a statement. "Director Caroline Suh's trusted relationship with Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa offers organic and honest moments that give viewers an authentic inside look into the lives of Blackpink, as well as the dedication and grueling preparation each member puts into every hit song, history-making performance, and sold-out arena tour. We're thrilled to bring their story to their fans worldwide."
Blackpink's latest solo single, "How You Like That," set YouTube records with 86 million views in its first 24 hours. The group continues to make inroads to mainstream pop by releasing collaborations with Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez. "Ice Cream," the group's track with Selena Gomez, hit no. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, which earned them the distinction of being the highest Billboard-charting female Korean act, ever.
