With season 21 of The Voice just about halfway through, coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Ariana Grande are making tough decisions about who should stay on their teams.

Ahead of a new episode of The Voice airing on Monday night, a six-minute YouTube clip gave a sneak peek of contestants Hailey Green and Libianca during the latest knockout round. In an attempt to make it through to the live performances and keep her spot on Team Blake, Hailey went all out and made the “brave” decision to sing Blake’s own Grammy-nominated single “God’s Country.” After hearing her belt out the folksy tune, Blake was blown away.

“Hailey, I’ve literally lost years off my life trying to get through that vocal and listening to you sing that, holy crap,” he said to her. But then out of nowhere, Blake couldn’t help but take a quick jab at former Voice coach and forever frenemy Adam Levine.

“At first, I thought when you came out here that since rehearsal you’ve been to Adam Levine’s tattoo artist,” he said, commenting on her outfit. “I was like ‘Oh my god. What has she done? Please, god.’”

As it turns out, the Mississippi high schooler hadn’t actually gotten an intricate sleeve of tattoos in between rehearsals and the first night of knockouts. Instead, she was wearing arm covers with a tattoo design on them. To ease Blake’s mind, she lifted it up quickly to show him.

Clearly, Blake just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to poke fun at the Maroon Five frontman. After all, the two have a love-hate relationship with each other, and even after Adam left The Voice in 2019, they still go back and forth just for fun.

But back to the competition — did Hailey’s bold song choice pay off? Fans will have to tune in to find out. According to the preview, Blake’s fellow coaches were divided and he also seemed a little stuck after hearing Libianca perform Billie Eilish’s pop song “Everything I Wanted.” When Voice host Carson Daly asked Blake to name a winner of the knockout, he began by saying “This is soul crushing.”

Yikes! What a tough call. We wonder what Adam would have to say about all of this.
