We’ve all seen it happen before.

You’re sitting in the middle of a packed food court, strolling through a crowded mall or listening to the pastor preach his Sunday best when the inevitable screams of a little child fill the air. You try to ignore the little…angel, and glance over at the parents. Apparently they’re ignoring the tantrum, too!

I heard someone refer to a mother of a child melting down as, ‘just sitting there,'” writes mommy blogger Constance Hall in a recent Facebook post, as she relays the story of a friend who saw a mom in a cafe “just sit there” while her kid threw a tantrum.

In her post, Hall reminds us that sometimes, in these cases, the only thing you can do is nothing.

I have been that mum. I have bribed, I have begged, I have stroked a child during a tantrum, I have lugged that child to the car, I reminded myself that it’s going to be ok and repeatedly told my child that I loved him, that she was going to see consequences if she didn’t stop, I have felt like throwing a god—- tanty my c—— self after one and I have also been that women, who sat there and did nothing.

“And any seasoned expert will tell you that sometimes the only thing you can do, is nothing. Time will heal all tantrums.”

“So I asked my friend to not see her as the mum who ‘just sat there’ while her child melts down,” Hall continued. “And instead see her as the mum who ‘is always there’ while her child melts down.”

“Because being there and doing nothing are two very different things
