I don't usually crave foods that look like they belong in Teletubbyland, but fun, dayglo rainbow waffles are irresistible-and something even the most breakfast-averse kid is sure to gobble up.

The blogs Gimme Some Oven and Random Thoughts of a Super Mom offer tips that make whipping up a batch super quick and easy. Both blogs are a little color obsessed and also provide recipes for rainbow cupcakes, rainbow pudding pops, and even rainbow pasta with Parmesan "clouds."

To make rainbow waffles at home you will need a round waffle maker, six small bowls, and pastry piping bags (if you want to get fancy about it). Use your favorite mix or try this recipe from scratch:

Simple Waffles

(Yields 4 cups batter)
2 cups all purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 ¾ cups milk
1/3 cup vegetable or canola oil
2 eggs
Vegetable spray for waffle iron
For rainbow waffles:
Food coloring
Whipped cream

1. Whisk together dry ingredients in a large bowl. Whisk together wet ingredients in a medium bowl. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry and stir until combined. Don't over mix, it's okay if there are a few lumps.

2. Divide batter into six bowls. Add food coloring to each to achieve desired vibrancy - the brighter the better. You will need a little more batter for the outside colors: red, orange, and yellow, than the inside colors: green, blue, and purple.

3. Heat waffle maker according to manufacturer's instructions. Spray lightly with vegetable oil as necessary.

4. If you want them to be super perfect, transfer batter to piping bags, squeeze bottles, or zip log baggies with one corner snipped off. You can also just carefully spoon batter from bowls.

5. Quickly squeeze or spoon colored batter in concentric circles onto prepared iron. Start with purple in the center, surround with blue, then green, yellow, orange, and red. Cook according to waffle maker manufacturer's instructions.

6. You can cut waffle in half and decorate with a dollop of fluffy whipped cream to make extra cute.
