Say it with flowers — or just say it near flowers. An informal study out of France is going to make you re-think your wooing strategy, men.
Exposure to flowers make women more receptive to romantic requests, the researchers say, even when just standing near a florist shop.
Psychologists from the University of South Brittany in France recruited five young, attractive men to approach young women shopping alone between the ages of 18 and 25 and try to get their phone numbers.
Each man introduced himself, complimented the woman, then asked for her number so they could go for drinks later.

Of the 600 women approached, almost a quarter of them — or 144 in total —agreed to give their number to the handsome stranger when asked outside a flower shop, the Telegraph reports.
One in seven agreed when asked outside a bakery, and just one in 10 agreed when asked outside a shoe shop.
"Flowers reflect our emotions and moods. They often convey feelings of compassion, regret, merriment or even romance. The results confirm the effect of exposure to flowers on receptivity to romantic request," the research finds.
Dr. Tom Buchanan, an expert in psychology at the University of Westminster, has two explanations for the successful flower-shop wooing.
First, he points to "automatic or behavioural priming," in which people make subconscious associations that trigger them to act in a certain way.
"So the presence of the flower shop, which is associated with romance, could have primed people to behave in a way that is more receptive to the researcher's advances," Buchanan tells The Telegraph.
His other explanation is that the women approached were already in a romantic mood, as they were likely shopping specifically for flowers. He suggests that the women outside the bakery may have been more receptive to the offer of a pie.
The findings were published in The Journal of Social Psychology.
Last year, another French study had similar findings: a woman is more likely to accept a date after sitting in a flower-filled room.
