Blood Test Shows How Likely You Are To Have Heart Attack In Next Five Years

A basic blood test could predict how likely people are to have a heart attack within the next fives years, scientists claim.

Researchers have discovered that people with high levels of Immunoglobin G antibodies in their blood stream were less likely to suffer from heart attack and stoke compared to those with lower levels.

The research monitored 1,753 people over fives years and found that those with a higher level of the antibodies had a 58 per cent lower chance of cardiovascular disease or heart attack and a 38 lower per cent chance of stoke.

Published in the journal EbioMedicine, the new research from Imperial College London and University College London suggests that blood tests could be used as a cheap and effective way of identifying those are high risk of cardiovascular disease.

Once identified, patients could be more effectively monitored and given more suitable medication to lower the risk of a heart attack.

Heart disease is currently the most common cause of death in the UK killing one person roughly every three minutes, according to the British Heart Foundation.

Most deaths caused by heart disease are the result of a heart attack.

While there are indications that diet may affect a person’s Immuniglobin G antibodies, there is no conclusive evidence just yet so more research is required.
