  • Season 12 of Blue Bloods premiered on Friday, October 1.

  • During the first episode, Danny Reagan took the mic at karaoke night.

  • As much as fans loved his performance, they wish he chose a NKOTB song.

In case you were wondering, Donnie Wahlberg is still the boy band singer we’ve always known and loved him to be. Only this time, he proved it on the set of Blue Bloods, not on a stage alongside his New Kids on the Block band members.

But first, if you haven’t seen the Blue Bloods premiere yet and don’t want to spoil it, stop reading now — you’ve been warned.

For those of you still reading, a little recap: During the October 1 Blue Bloods Season 12 premiere, Danny Reagan (played by Donnie) took the stage at karaoke night. Naturally, fans expected him to pick one of his own songs, but instead, he opted for a Rolling Stones cover — which prompted mixed emotions.

“I was hoping he would sing a New Kids song,” one fan wrote in the comments section of Donnie’s photographic evidence of the scene, which he posted on Instagram. “When Danny went up to the mic, we were screaming… Please sing NKOTB!!!! That would have been awesome,” another fan exclaimed.

Believe it or not, despite the performer he is, Donnie revealed that he would have probably tried to nix the scene if it weren’t for his diehard fans.

“I probably would have talked my way out of shooting this scene but I knew you guys would love it,” he wrote on Twitter. “Anything for my Blockheads!”

This isn’t the first time that Danny has embraced Donnie within the show, though. In an interview with Showbiz CheatSheet, Donnie actually revealed that he’s hidden a few NKOTB easter eggs on Blue Bloods.

“The first season I snuck a New Kids On The Block [song] title in every episode,” he said. “So I would tell, like Bridget [Moynahan]’s character, ‘Hey, hang tough’ and ‘Call It What You Want,’ ‘Step by Step.’ I was speaking in song titles pretty much every episode and nobody was really catching it because of the way I did it. But my music fans and the [NKOTB] fans definitely were catching it. And every week they would hashtag whatever the song title was. It would usually end up trending on Twitter. I love it."
