From plastic PVC boots to platform Crocs, all the wildest shoes from Fashion Week

Here’s a preview of what to expect in footwear for next spring.

In Paris, Karl Lagerfeld created ‘fancy PVC boots‘ for Chanel. Virgil Abloh embraced a similar concept to that of Lagerfeld’s— putting clear plastic over his black pumps. At Sacai, Chitose Abe used rope ties for her heels. But it wasn’t all about industrial materials. Stella McCartney put models in feminine satin heels and at Acne Studios, models wore edgy mules made of croc.

In Milan, designers were all over the map for footwear. On one end, designers embraced opulence and luxury, as seen at Dolce & Gabbana, whose shoe collection included jewel-encrusted gladiator sandals and over-the-top silver beaded boots. On the other end, brands like Fendi and Arthur Arbesser opted for shoes with sculptural heels and modern graphic prints.

But there were still some brands whose shoes fell in-between the two genres, such as Moschino and Prada, whose shoes took a more hard-edged, rock ’n’ roll style incorporating patent leather and studs.

In London, it was all about the statement shoe. Mary Katrantzou sent models down the runway in vibrantly colored platform shoes, each embellished with her name across the platform. Christopher Kane continues to incorporate sponge material onto his heels. Though it isn’t shocking from the British designer, who had previously made headlines pairing Crocs with his runway looks.

Still, modern, minimalistic footwear continued to thrive, too. Lush bow slides were spotted at Simone Rocha, while understated white heels and sandals were spotted at Joseph and Peter Pilotto.

Popular catwalk styles from NYFW include lots of boots with metallic, sparkly details, as shown at Christian Siriano and Calvin Klein. Sporty, athletic-style heels will be everywhere next spring, as shown at Monse — where models strutted the runway wearing heels made of classic white tube socks — and Fenty Puma, where the brand incorporated shoelaces and plastic buckles similar to what you might find at your local REI store. Mules will continue to be in fashion next spring, but they will feature colorful, bold racer stripes, as spotted at Tibi.

Take a look back at all the best spring 2018 shoes from PFW, MFW, LFW and NYFW.
