‘The Bold Type’ Fans Are Beyond Disappointed With the Season 4 Finale

From Good Housekeeping

  • The Bold Type will not air a new episode on Freeform on Thursday.

  • Fans were disappointed with the season 4 finale, which was put together after the coronavirus pandemic affected production.

  • The Bold Type hasn’t been renewed for season 5.

The Bold Type fans happily welcomed back their favorite trio when season 4 returned not too ago. Unfortunately, the hit Freeform series won’t be airing new episodes in the foreseeable future. Why? Well, last Thursday was actually the season 4 finale even though it didn’t quite feel like it.

Season 4 kicked off at the start of 2020 and it was set to air 18 new episodes. While the first 10 episodes thoughtfully explored the storylines of Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), and Sutton Brady-Hunter (Meghann Fahy), the rest couldn’t do the same. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Bold Type had to abruptly shutdown production, which meant that the show wasn’t able to film its final two episodes.

And if you weren’t thrilled about the ending, you aren’t alone.

According to actress Katie, who portrays Jane, the editor of the newly launched vertical Failing Feminist, the latest season finale was unlike those in the past.

"It’s hard because we were gonna see more of how it would play out and unfortunately we had to cut it short because of COVID," she told Entertainment Tonight. "So, we won’t really see the resolve ... for all of these people like we would’ve if we had those two episodes ... I think that it’s definitely different for The Bold Type 'cause we normally see some things wrapped up in a bow, which we won’t get, I don’t think, this season."

Showrunner Wendy Straker Hauser echoed this sentiment, touching on how the show readjusted to the unexpected worldly events.

"We didn’t reshoot anything. We just sort of reordered a few things. It’s hard to get specific about it, but we did whatever we could just try to make a finale out of it and heighten certain situations," she told TVLine. "But it was a very jam-packed episode to begin with. Our journey was not finished. So we left it on a big bang, that’s for sure."

Whether or not the dramedy gets picked up for season 5 is still unknown. But we’re crossing our fingers!
