Boot camp for U.S. Border Patrol agents

President Trump has pledged to add an additional 5,000 agents to the existing Border Patrol force of more than 21,000 as part of his border security policy. All new agents must complete a months-long training course at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico before assuming their posts at Border Patrol stations, mostly along the U.S.-Mexico border. All new agents receive a boot-camp style introduction to their training course. Instructors forbid new trainees from setting luggage down, as part of procedures for new arrivals. They are fitted with uniforms, must complete physical training classes, take weapons training, climb obstacle courses and practice take-down procedures before heading to their new posts.
