Boy Apologizes to Little Girl Like a True Gentleman — the Internet Rejoices
When Zowiie Williams' young son, Callum, influenced by another boy in class, picked on "his special little lady," the mom swept in to refute the idea that boys taunt or tease girls to express affection.
You know the drill - the meaner the boy is inversely (more like perversely) correlates to the depth of his feelings. It's a pretty damaging association and Williams knew it, which is why she sat him down for a constructive conversation. What she really gave her son, though, was a stronger sense of respect for females. "When your son hurts a girl's feelings, it's our job as parents to make him understand how saying things out of anger can make others feel," she wrote on Facebook, addressing the incident. "Callum now understands that what other people think or say should not sway him into acting like he doesn't care about other people's feelings. Especially a girl's."
It was a big parenting moment for Williams, but an even bigger life experience for Callum, who walked into the school the next day with a bouquet of flowers and prepared apology. "His head was high and he apologized in front of his peers and handed over the flowers," wrote his mother. "It was a learning step. One I hope he will carry with him always."
The Internet is with Williams every step of the way. "This is how to bring up boys, one commenter wrote. "Well done. Hopefully there will be a few more gentlemen [who] know how to treat ladies well and be respectful."
"Be proud that you showed him something that some other moms might have just brushed off. You helped him be a little man. He will remember," another wrote.
And it sounds like the little girl Callum likes will remember, too. "She was over the moon! Biggest smile on her little face," Williams told GoodHousekeeping.com. "She's the loveliest little lady!"
