Boy Hits Home Run in Honor of Grandma. Hours Later, He Learns She Died Shortly Before the Game
"Final gifts to each other," the boy's mom wrote on TikTok
A mom is sharing a special, though bittersweet, moment between her son and his grandmother.
In a now-viral TikTok video posted in June, which has garnered more than 5.8 million views and 4,600 comments, user @jaimelynnkroll shares a heartwarming moment she captured of her son hitting his first home run at a baseball game. Before the game, he told his mom he planned to hit a home run in honor of his grandma.
But, as the mom revealed in the video caption, what her son didn’t know at the time was that his grandma had died shortly before he made the play.
"[Their] final gifts to each other," she wrote, alongside the footage of him running the bases.
After posting the video, the comment section quickly filled with words of sympathy and support.
"Grammy didn’t miss it. She was right on his heels, running to home plate with him ❤️," one user wrote. In response, @jaimelynnkroll commented, "I felt it."
"That is gonna be the happiest day and saddest day of that boys life 🥺❤️," another person commented.
Someone else said, "The way I just sobbed. He's so happy and he's about to be crushed. Embodiment of life the joys and sadness."

In a follow-up video posted later that month, @jaimelynnkroll offered a glimpse into the funeral, which featured a church decorated with the grandmother's quilts and her favorite color, pink. The video also included a photo of the son, wearing a pink tie and shoes. "Her slugger," the mom wrote.
"A beautiful celebration of a life well lived," she captioned the photo featured in the TikTok, which has also amassed more than 20,000 views.
"Grammy was there for his home run, she’d never miss it 🤍 She fulfilled her purpose here, and is now his guardian angel," one user wrote.
