Bradley Beal's back-to-back 50-point games lead to drug test, box-and-1 from Nets

Bradley Beal’s reward for back-to-back 50-point nights wasn’t just two Washington Wizards losses.

The Wizards guard said that he received a drug test from the NBA for his efforts, as well as the box-and-one treatment against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. That still didn’t stop Beal from dropping 30 points on 11-of-24 shooting as the Wizards finally won a game.

Beal told reporters after the game that he hadn’t seen that kind of defense since high school.

If a box-and-one sounds like a risky decision by the Nets, just remember the fun fact that Beal is the only player to ever drop 50 points in consecutive days and have his team lose both games.

Bradley Beal has looked better than ever for Wizards

Beal was widely seen as a very good player on a very bad team, but that narrative has entered overdrive in the past month.

Since Jan. 26, Beal is averaging 36.7 points per game across 13 games. In that span, the Wizards are somehow 6-7 despite only three of those games coming against teams over .500, with losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors.

What’s more, Beal is averaging 31.2 points in those six wins and 41.4 points in the seven losses. That latter mark includes the 53 points he had against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday and 55 against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday, both losses.

If the Wizards aren’t careful, even more box-and-ones could be coming.
