Bride Re-creates Solange’s All-White Wedding

Bria Shelton knew she wanted some unique element with which to create a different sort of wedding. However, she was met with confrontation from her family.

“I came to realize that a traditional wedding was not our taste as a couple,” Shelton, 24, of Wilmington, Del., tells Yahoo Style. “My family didn’t support me at first. They just didn’t understand.”

Shelton wanted her bridesmaids to wear white for an all-white wedding party — an homage to Solange Knowles’s 2014 wedding to Alan Ferguson.

And that’s exactly what she did, along with re-creating a version of Knowles’s jumpsuit-and-cape wedding-day outfit.

Shelton met Eric Brown, 26, when they were children. “I would see him at family functions all the time,” she says. Yet it wasn’t until they both reconnected in college that the love began to flourish. Three years later, he popped the question.

“We were told we were crazy for getting married so young,” she says. “But when you find your soul mate, why wait?”

In just six months Shelton organized her wedding, pulling inspiration from Knowles’s game-changing nuptials. “Her style is so unique. And my gosh, when I saw her wedding, I felt that was the right theme for us,” she says.

The couple contacted photographer Aaron Ricketts, who also did their engagement photos, to bring their vision to life.

As Ricketts tells Yahoo Style: “They ended up liking [the engagement photos] so much that they wanted me to shoot their wedding. Keep in mind I was never told that the bride was going for a Solange feel, but after seeing her and her bridesmaids, I could immediately get that vibe. I felt it was only right that we create some Solange-wedding-inspired images.”

At the big event, Shelton, a nutritionist and an aspiring singer, dedicated and sang a song to her new husband, who works in technology.

“After my family got on board with our vision, they were super supportive,” she says. “People say it’s the best wedding they’ve ever attended.”

Mr. and Mrs. Brown aren’t the only ones who are following in Knowles’s footsteps.

This other wedding party re-created the pose of the photos but dressed in black.
