This bride's genius bathroom hack involves a wedding dress and a cheap IKEA product
Wedding dresses are lovely and all, but they come with their impracticalities — from maneuvering long trains to avoiding red wine and trying not to get mud on the hem.
But here’s the mother of all bridal dilemmas: going to the restroom in a voluminous Vera Wang.
Big dresses require an army of bridesmaids to pitch in when the bride eventually needs to visit the ladies’ room. After all, hiking the thing up and making sure that precious tulle doesn’t go down the toilet bowl is no one-woman job.
But what if you don’t feel like sharing a stall with others on your big day? One bride might have found the answer — and it’s all about a trusty blue IKEA bag.
According to a Facebook post from DJ Sweeby in Belgium, a bride was able to answer nature’s call in peace after cutting a hole in the bottom of a blue IKEA Frakta shopping bag.
“I got married a few weeks ago (in a mermaid wedding dress) and I was really worried about going to the bathroom and not being able to … handle myself,” the unidentified bride wrote.
“Someone helping or watching me going to the bathroom on my wedding day? Not being able to have free hands to use the toilet paper? Or even worse, if my period decides to show? NO WAY!”
Enter IKEA.
The bride’s solution was to cut the bag, pop her legs through the opening, and pull the bag up with the straps resting on her shoulders. The bag, meanwhile, collects her dress material and keeps it protected from any splashes or accidental toilet dunks.
Is it elegant? No. But it’s efficient — and with a Frakta tote costing just over a buck, it’s inexpensive too.
