Bridezilla Alert! Bride-to-be Asks Bridesmaids To Chip In For Over-Budget Designer Gown

As a bridesmaid you’d expect to have a little bit more involvement in the planning process than your average wedding guest. You might even expect to have to contribute financially to a few minor things, your hair, your make-up, maybe even your shoes. But what you wouldn’t have to do is stump up some dosh to pay for the Bride’s over-budget designer dress.

That’s exactly what happened to one miffed woman when she was asked to be bridesmaid for her friend, known only as Carol. Writing about her experiences on the website Mamamia, the anonymous woman detailed how bonkers requests to supply Excel spreadsheets with cake maker’s details eventually lead to an email asking to ‘contribute’ to the bride’s $10,500 Marchesa wedding gown.

“At first, I thought Carol was just being a little overzealous when the group emails asking for input on everything from bridesmaid dress colours, hairstyles, make-up looks, bridal dresses, buttonholes for the groomsmen (something I had to Google) and table decorations came flooding through, quickly taking up a large chunk of my day,” she wrote on the site.

But she quickly realised her friend had turned into a Bridezilla of epic proportions when she was asked to supply spreadsheets with cake maker details, favours, price brackets and an idea of how ‘prestigious’ each cake would be.

“After the third disbelieving email, I felt my blood start boiling. Was she serious?!” she wrote.

But her spreadsheet woes were nothing compared to how she felt when she received the request for contributions towards the bride’s designer gown.

“The latest bridal update was a long email outlining how she and Jase were hugely over their bridal budget now that she’d splurged on the dress,” the friend wrote.

“That it was “totally fine if you can’t” but she would really love if we could “pitch in” around $150 each towards her “dream dress”. That it’d mean so very much to her and would mean that as she walked down the aisle, she’d be wearing something we’d all had a part in. Yes, she was essentially asking her bridal party to chip in for her dress.”

Aside from their own $550 bridesmaid outfit, the accommodation for the wedding, the hen party, bridal shower and three spa days, Carol’s bridesmaids were also expected to fork out for the bride’s dress too?!

“I nearly threw my phone across the room, such was the rage that consumed me,” the bridesmaid wrote.

Despite three of the seven bridesmaids emailing to say they’d happily fork out for the bride’s dress, it may just have been one cheeky request too far for our bridesmaid to be.

“I’m starting to think I might have to bail on this wedding, and friendship,” she wrote.

We don’t blame you love.
