California lawmakers to hold hearing on government response to fentanyl

California lawmakers in the state Assembly on Wednesday will hold a mega hearing involving three different committees to try to figure out what's working and what isn't in the state and local response to illegal fentanyl. An agenda for the hearing, which includes the Select Committee on Fentanyl, Opioid Addiction and Prevention; the Assembly's Health Committee and the Public Safety Committee was not publicly available as of Tuesday night. San Francisco Assemblyman Matt Haney, who is leading the hearing, told KCRA 3 that victims, Gov. Gavin Newsom's administration, public health officials, law enforcement, and the state's Department of Justice would be represented in the hearing. He also said California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond plans on participating.
