Beer yoga is the latest (and I use the term loosely) spiritual practice making waves on an international scale. Tried and tested amongst beer yogis in Germany, the method has since found a place for itself here in Canada.
“We take the philosophies of yoga and pair it with the pleasure of beer-drinking to reach your highest level of consciousness,” reads Berlin’s BierYoga (A.K.A BeerYoga) website.
Following in their footsteps, Yoga On Tap, Ottawa, promotes itself as “Canada’s first mobile beer yoga studio.” Participants are led to lay their mats in contracted breweries, bars and at food festivals since the collective began in 2015.
Apparently, combining Hindu derived traditions with the consumption of craft beer promotes “health and happiness through a balanced lifestyle and mindful drinking,” according to their website.
You can see it for yourself this weekend as the group heads to Ottawa Winter Brewfest. The event page assures attendees that no yoga experience is necessary. It should make for an, er… interesting sight.
